October 2023

Dear Parents:

October is already here, and the weather can change quickly, so please send your child to the daycare dressed appropriately. Our Halloween Party will be on Tuesday October 31, so you can dress your child in a costume.

We’d like to welcome our new teacher Mrs. Monisha who will be working with Mrs. Kayleigh in Toddler Room 2. We’d also like to welcome Ms. Yana who will be helping in the baby room.

Happy Birthday to Levi and Grayson this month.

Baby Room

This month we would like to talk about the friends we currently have in the baby room.

Miles – He is the youngest friend in the room who joined us this month. He is a very happy boy and has adapted well to the new environment, friends, and teachers.

Mirabel – She is trying to walk and just started pulling herself up onto furniture. Sometimes she’ll need the teachers help to hold her hands and walk around the classroom or playground. She is able to climb onto the small slide on the playground outside. She’s not speaking yet but able to shake or nod her head for yes or no.

Miley – She started in September and became accustomed to our classroom routine. Her favorite activities are using the soft blocks to build a tower and knocking it over when she’s done. She knows how to communicate by pointing to an object that she wants or needs.

Ivy – She still has a hard time saying bye to her mom in the morning. Her favorite things to do with her teachers and friends is to play peekaboo with scarves. She has the biggest smile and laughs so much when we play this game. She started saying simple words such as banana, more, etc.

Zayn – He is a very well mannered boy who’s gentle with his friends. He loves to sing and dance. His favorite song is Hop Little Bunny.

Alba – He is a very happy and active boy. He’s not quite walking yet but is managing to get around the classroom and outside by crawling. He always has a positive attitude and is a very good listener. He’s doing wonderful in our room. He has an older sister in our daycare and is very happy to see her during outside time.

Luke – He has adjusted to our routine very well. He loves playing with soccer balls, and is very good at standing/kicking the ball to his friends and teachers. He is a very good eater and loves to sleep with his stuffed animal during nap time.

Louis – She is always so happy and kind. In the morning, she will greet her teachers with a warm smile and say Good Morning. Her speech has developed a lot since she started with us. She’s always copying what the teacher says.

Ivana – She is a very optimistic little girl who’s always full of energy. She likes to play outside, driving forward and backward in a small toy car or on a bike. She’s able to go up and down the stairs without the teachers help. She loves to look at books and copy animal sounds.

We would like to remind parents that although it’s a gorgeous time of year, our little friends can get cold outside. Please bring appropriate jackets, hats, gloves to the daycare.

This month we’ll be exploring Thanksgiving, Halloween, and preparing for winter. We will discuss Thanksgiving, and how it’s celebrated. Children will learn some songs and poems such as Ten Little Turkeys, and How Do Turkeys Move. Arts and crafts will be filled with hand print turkeys, pumpkin decorations, etc.

Halloween is coming and we’ll talk about different costumes. We’ll read lots of Halloween stories, and play with leaves, acorns, and pumpkins in our sensory table. For crafts, we will paint a spider with our hand, make a pumpkin collage, and lots of other sensory activities.

At the end of the month, we will discuss how the weather changes from warm to cold, and what appropriate clothing we’ll need to wear in winter.

Toddler Room 2

This month is going to be so exciting with Halloween coming up. We can’t wait to see all our friends dressed up. For the first week of October, we’re very excited to have all the children make hand print wreaths and classic hand print turkeys. We’ll also be making a beautiful fall tree with all the colours of the changing leaves. Our final craft before the long weekend will be a delicious piece of pumpkin pie. We are sure the children will love adding their hand made decoration to their homes this month.

We will be going back to learning the Alphabet and our letter for this week of October will be E. Children will create and colour an elephant, an egg, and the beautiful planet we call home, Earth.

The next letter is F. This will be a fun week as we are able to use real items such as flowers, and feathers to make our F creations. The children will also be building their very own fire trucks.

The last week of October will be filled with some final spooky creations. The children will start by making their very own creepy crawly spiders, spooky ghosts, and bats to our scary Halloween classroom.

We are very excited for all the fun activities this month will bring and can’t wait to end this month with some super fun Halloween costumes.

Happy October!

Thanksgiving is fast approaching and we have so much fun to be grateful for. The children will be making pies out of playdough. They’ll work on their fine motor skills while talking about different fruits we can put in the pies.

During circle time, we’ll be singing and telling stories about turkeys, reading books such as The Great Turkey Race, The Thanksgiving Door, and Payton Picks The Perfect Pie. We will learn how Thanksgiving is celebrate in China, Rome, and Egypt with the book Thanksgiving Is, by Gale Gibbon. When Halloween comes around, we will have lots of fun trying different costumes in the dramatic play area. We will make crafts such as ghost potato prints, and jack-o-lantern paper plates. We will continue learning our letters and numbers.

We are almost at the end of the alphabet and are learning 3 new letters every week. We are going on adventures with Captain Sea Salt to visit the Alphabet Island where he follows the clues on the map to the treasure. Along the way, we encounter creatures that begin with the letter we are studying that day. We also practice writing letters on our magnetic board. The children enjoy Number Blocks to help them learn numbers, and we practice writing them in the air.

On October 31, children are able to wear or bring in any kind of costume they would like. We are going to have a little Halloween party and can’t wait to see all the fun costumes our friends wear.
