Baby Room

Hello families! This month we’d like to welcome Edward to our room. We are so excited to have him learning and playing with us.

Happy Birthday to Miles, and Edward!

This month we’ll be talking about mittens, and hats. During circle time, we’ll be singing the song Mittens On My Hands, and reading a book called The Mittens. For crafts, we’ll make a hat using paper plates.

With the weather getting quite cold, this is a great time for children to become used to wearing hats and mittens.

Then, the children will be learning all about pets. Most of our families have pets, and it will be a very exciting topic for all of our friends. They will be learning a silly song called Bingo. Children will learn and copying the sounds that pets make. During crafts we will make some cute little fish, and paint as a sensory activity.

The last theme for this month will be All About Me. We will have the children learning more about themselves and their bodies. During circle time we’ll be singing the action song Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes. We’ll be reading the book Eyes, Ears, Nose, Fingers, and Toes. We’ll have a big craft project which is our Family Tree. We are very excited to start this activity with children and hope they have lots of fun learning with us and their friends.

Happy Birthday to Isabella and Briar!

This month we’ll be exploring Teddy Bears and Fairy Tales. Children will paint a brown bear using a fork, and do a sorting activity where they will use tongs to sort different coloured bears into different bowls.

Next we’ll be teaching children about Remembrance Day. They will make a poppy out of plates and popsicle sticks, and will learn the song See The Veteran. We will also discuss the poem about poppyies and show the children what a real poppy looks like.

The children always have fun learning about colours. We’ll continue this theme by reading the book Monsters Love Colours. We’ll make a caterpillar craft by using colours of their choice, and doing activities like sorting lego’s and crayons in different colour groups. We will play in the water table using food colouring, and make different colour playdough with children.

The last theme of the month will be the moon. We will talk about the difference between the sun and the moon, and the different stages of the moon.

We hope you and your little ones had so much fun on Halloween. It was wonderful having all our friends come in their costumes and have a little dance party. Since Halloween is over, we’ll continue with our alphabet. When learning about the letter G, we will have children using bottle caps to try and make circle shapes in a bunch to represent grapes. Our final art activity for the week of G will be making gingerbread men. We will read the story, and have the children painting and adding decorations to personalize their gingerbread man. The children are getting wonderful at remembering their letters.

Then our focus will be on Remembrance Day as it’s very important to teach children the history of our country. We’ll make poppies using paper plates and plastic red flowers. We’ll have children colouring on coffee filters, and adding water to help the colours spread through the filters.

Back to our alphabet learning, the next letter is H. We will have children making art projects on hats and houses, and hammers, hummingbirds, and horses. Everybody lives in a house, so it’ll be fun to see what type of houses the children can create.

For the third week of November, we’ll be learning about the letter I. Children will be using puffy paint to create yummy ice cream cones, and then we’ll build some igloos. Our last word for the letter I will be insect. We will teach children different types of insects. We’ll have children choose their own insect and help them create them.

At the end of the month we’ll focus on the letter J. We’ll be learning about jellyfish and jam. We might even have a small tasting so our friends can truly connect the name to the taste.

We are very excited to start this next set of activities before we move into December and talk about the Christmas holidays.

Happy Birthday to Tehillah, Liam, and Roman!

We are so looking forward to presenting different themes that focus on this time of transition between autumn and winter. For Remembrance Day we’ll be reading the book A Poppy Is To Remember, and In Flander’s Fields. We will talk about showing respect and honour to our veterans, and explain what a soldier’s job is. We will create poppies during our craft.

The Fall season is the season of harvest in many parts of the world. The children will be learning about different crops that are harvested. We will focus on apples. We’ll read the books Ten Red Apples, and The Apple Pie Tree. We’ll be introducing children to the names of different types of apples, making apple pie with playdough. We’ll make seed collages and painting apple trees during our art and craft time. We will use real apples to make apple cider and we will visit an apple orchard virtually so the children can see how apples grow.

By the end of the month we’ll learn about all the different ways that animals prepare for winter. We’ll talk about birds like Geese an ducks that migrate to different parts of the world. The children will learn the difference between migration and hibernation. We will explore animals that hibernate in Canada, and pretend to be the different animals preparing for winter during our dramatic play. During circle time we will read the books Incredible Animal Journeys, and Migration Migration.
